DEMOLITION MAN

Well. Today was one helluva day.

Great movie.  Great.
Our little boy has been sick, and he definitely woke up this morning feeling bad. Unfortunately, Ariane also had a stomach bug today and felt like crapola too! And since I started filling up the Bagster bag-dumpster thing last week, it's been just sitting out there since then. Doesn't look great for the house next door that will be on the market soon!

So that meant that I had to continue demo today. Luckily Ariane and the boy were able to take it easy and avoid most of the racket I was making!

I think about 12 hours total were spent on the demo work today. The reciprocating saw blades kept bending, I kept getting splinters and bleeding everywhere, and the soffit over the old vanity was built for earthquakes or something ... a real pain! But. Got all the walls down that I needed to!
hammering electricity
Take THAT, wiring!
While boy boy was sleeping, I'd thought is take the initiative and remove all the outlets and switches from this area since they'll all be moving and will be replaced anyway. So I spent an hour or so doing that quietly ...

Later, when the sun had set and we needed lights on the upper floor, I flipped the breaker back on .... And nothin. Oh crap. The big tangles or wires that I unraveled had to stay connected for there to be power for the 2nd story! NICE wiring job, 80's terrible electrician. Why in the world would seven different areas ... a whole floor ... be on ONE circuit? Stuuuuuupid. But I guessing was stupid also to disconnect everything before the electrician was around.

But wait! I was smart and took pictures before I disconnected everything!

Ah ha! Now it's blatantly obvious to a typical homeowner why there is now power to the whole floor, right?!  Clear as mud!

Yeah, it took me about 2 more hours to get everything back on again. But I did disconnect the old lights and vent fan at least. Ugh.

All through this mess today, Ariane was trying not to be sick but was having trouble.  Maybe it was the gluten-free Dominoes last night, maybe it's something from daycare, maybe it's just going around.  But it sucks -- especially on a Saturday.  Come on!  Hopefully she feels better for her day of rest!

Since it was Saturday, though, had to make a trip to good ol' Home Depot.  While there, I picked up a solid 6-panel door, pocket door frame, more saw blades, and a scraping attachment for tile for tomorrow's fun. OOOOOOOOHHHHHH TOOOOOOOOLS .... should be interesting!
